The San Antonio Spurs visited the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night, which would be a normal NBA regular season game save for one very special occurrence. It was the first time Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and his favorite friend and foil, TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager, had been reunited since Sager’s comeback this season from his second round of fighting leukemia.
Sager’s TNT colleague Kevin Harlan actually recorded their first meeting in the locker room on Twitter for the world to see the heartfelt moment:

Then at the end of the first quarter, the two had their official on-air reunion:

“Welcome back baby… now ask me a couple of inane questions!”
Sager and Popovich are one of the more unlikely heartwarming pairings in sports, especially given Pop’s usually icy demeanor towards Sager’s ilk. But his support for Sager has truly been phenomenal as Sager’s fight against cancer has been one of the more inspirational stories in sports this year. And seeing them laugh and trade barbs once again is one of the great moments of the year.
