Swin Cash joins MSG Network as Knicks studio analyst and show host

Swin Cash is already a part of the New York sports scene, having played the past two seasons for the WNBA’s Liberty. The former UConn All-American and national champion also has experience working on television for ESPN and as a correspondent on CBS Sports Network’s We Need to Talk.

So adding a gig as studio analyst for MSG Network’s New York Knicks broadcasts seems like a natural move for the star during her offseason. Cash will provide analysis for approximately a dozen games this season, according to Newsday‘s Neil Best. In addition, she will host “Nothing But Knicks” on the network, a bi-weekly show that will provide a behind-the-scenes look at team practices and film sessions with coach Derek Fisher, assistant coaches and players.

Is this the first step to eventually becoming a game analyst for a NBA team, joining the Hornets’ Stephanie Ready as the only female who currently holds such a full-time position?

“It’s a natural progression,” Cash told Best. “Analyzing a men’s game or analyzing a women’s game for me, there’s nothing different about it, especially for the color [analyst] side. Basketball is basketball. Yeah, you have a few more dunks here and there, but breaking down the Xs and Os, the players’ tendencies, that’s something that’s natural.”

Cash has consulted with several friends and colleagues who work in television about the industry, including NBA TV’s Steve Smith and ESPN’s Jemele Hill and Sage Steele. It also sounds as if she has aspirations beyond sports when it comes to TV, citing Michael Strahan’s success in transitioning from a professional athlete who won at the highest level and finished on top to a lucrative career in front of the camera.
