SportsCenter is pulling out all the stops for the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight this week in Las Vegas.  A cast of thousands will be on-site in Vegas with several episodes of SportsCenter emanating from Sin City and special programming geared towards the fight taking over Bristol airwaves.  ESPN has touted going all-in with SportsCenter for Mayweather-Pacquiao and it continues their recent trend of taking the flagship show on the road.

We didn’t know just how all-in SportsCenter would be until Monday night’s 11 PM ET program dedicated 15 minutes of live coverage to Manny Pacquiao arriving in Las Vegas and getting off his bus.

Really.

No, really.

Yes, that’s a thing that happened.

Max Bretos was given the assignment of a lifetime, waiting amidst a small gathering of Pacquiao supporters and assembled media, to watch a man get off a bus and walk into a hotel.

Here’s some excerpts of the breathless coverage, which is surely one of the more unique segments in SportsCenter history.

“Manny, how was the ride?” is not going to be played on ESPN’s 50th Anniversary special as one of the great moments in network history.  I hope Bretos was longing for the days when he was doing Championship Rugby with Brian Vizard on Fox Sports World and he deserves his salary getting doubled for going through with that.

This was unbelievable to watch in real time, like you couldn’t believe ESPN was actually dedicating live coverage to a guy getting off a bus and sticking with it for so long while he was just standing there.  How does it take so long for one guy to get off a bus?  It’s the most attention an athlete’s vehicle has received since the days of the white bronco.  Keep in mind that this was happening on a night when the NBA and NHL Playoffs were in full swing.  And with all that going down in the sports world, ESPN spent 15 minutes on a man exiting his vehicle.  They didn’t even do that for Tebow!!

I’m just disappointed ESPN didn’t follow Pacquiao inside Mandalay Bay to check out his room or see what he was getting at the buffet.  It’s still early in the week, so there’s still plenty of opportunities for SportsCenter to go all-in with Mayweather-Pacquiao and take it to the extreme.  Even E! News is shaking their head at SportsCenter at this point.
