Thursday Night Football is a lucrative commodity for the NFL. But it’s come under fire because of the extra wear and tear it puts on players, with numerous current and former players lashing out at the short week they have before playing on Thursday nights.

The latest player to take a shot at TNF? Richard Sherman of the Seahawks, one of the more outspoken players in the league. Sherman had some strong words for the NFL in regards to TNF, as told to ESPN’s Sheil Kapadia.

“I mean, it’s rough,” Sherman said. “It’s rough on the body. Any time you play a football game and play another one a few days later, it’s going to be tough on the body. But it’s just another one of those things. Another one of those simple contradictions of the league, because they care about us.”

I love the extra shot at the NFL’s hypocrisy, but that’s par for the course for the league nowadays.

It’s also pretty silly that from Weeks 2 to 11 of the season, the Thursday night games are all divisional matchups. Crucial game with a rival? Cool, have fun with three fewer days of rest! Ravens-Steelers is one of the fiercest, hardest-hitting rivalries in the NFL…and one game has been on a Thursday in each of the last three seasons.

So much for player safety.
