Robot Pop singer Ariana Grande was set to sing during this Saturday’s pre-All-Star Game concert. That was until TMZ released a video showing the 22-year-old caught on security camera in a California donut shop licking donuts and saying “I hate Americans, I hate America.” That’s a sentence I’d never thought I’d ever write on this site.

Watch the video for yourself.

It seems Grande and her boyfriend were dared (or dared each other) to lick the donuts. Not entirely sure what prompted the anti-America comment, but it seems Grande recently underwent some dental surgery, so it’s possible she was totally out of it when said video was filmed. The dental work is also the official reason why MLB is making the change according to Yahoo’s Big League Stew, but that seems a bit convenient given what she said.

Grande released a statement saying she made the statement because of American eating habits.

I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my county. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry. However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better. As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.

I know when I protest the eating habits of my fellow countrymen, the first thing I do is go to a donut store and lick the first cream-filled pastry I can find.

Either way, Grande won’t be performing at the concert which is devastating news for baseball parents who intend to bring their tweens along for the festivities. There’s some good news, however (I guess), as fellow tween idol Demi Lovato will be taking her place.
