UCLA coach Jim Mora isn’t doing so well on Twitter lately. Earlier this month, he deleted his account after getting into some hot water with Kansas State fans. Then, the account returned from Twitter purgatory on Thursday night and tweeted out this photo of Maea Teuhema, a 2015 recruit that UCLA is trying to lure away from LSU.
Needless to say, that would be an NCAA violation since Teuhema is still a recruit and hasn’t signed with any school yet.
Then Mora decided to go with the standard excuse when someone commits a faux pas on social media – blame hackers!
And then the account was deleted. The hacking excuse might hold a little more water if Mora’s account hadn’t been reactivated weeks earlier, because really – who hacks a Twitter account, sits on it for three weeks, and then finally tweets out one picture of one recruit?
What a mess. Let’s be honest here – Mora himself probably isn’t running the account. Someone with UCLA’s athletic department is likely pulling the strings, and doing a bad job of it. Imagine if UCLA got hit with a secondary recruiting violation for that Teuhema tweet when Mora wasn’t even the one committing the violation. It would be a complete embarrassment, especially in the day and age of compliance departments telling fans not to tweet recruits.

It doesn’t take much education to make sure this doesn’t happen. When something like this happens at a major university, it’s just embarrassing for everyone involved.
