Binging on Friday Night Lights during the Thanksgiving holiday would certainly be an ambitious endeavor. The show is on Netflix, which makes it easy to continually watch episodes, but the series ran for five seasons. Maybe you could get through the whole thing from now through the New Year. If you prefer not to interact with people or maybe don’t have a job.
Of course, you can always just watch a few episodes and remind yourself why you love the show. You don’t eat all of the turkey on Thanksgiving, do you? You have a couple of helpings. Maybe a little more than that.
But fans in Los Angeles will soon get to do more than just watch reruns of Friday Night Lights. A musical version of the show is coming. As first reported by Variety, the same team of producers that put Cruel Intentions: The Musical and The Unauthorized O.C. Musical on stage are now working their magic on your favorite show about high school football in Dillon, Texas.

The Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical is happening, after NBC Universal gave its approval. Oh, and the stage show already has a Twitter account (@TheFNLMusical) so you know it’s good.
Lending this production further legitimacy is the participation of one of the series’ original cast members. Scott Porter, who portrayed quarterback Jason Street, will be playing Coach Eric Taylor on stage. We’re guessing that Porter won’t just be lip-syncing lines from the show. This is a musical, so he’d best be singing.
Unfortunately, this stage production won’t exactly be hitting Broadway or making a tour stop in a city near you. This is more than likely a one-night event and at best will run through one weekend. But if the show is a hit and becomes a must-see sensation, anything is possible. Weirder things have happened. Like Friday Night Lights becoming a musical.
