Ex-ESPN analyst and former Nationals and Indians manager Manny Acta is heading back to the majors. Acta has reportedly been hired as the new third base coach of the Seattle Mariners.

Acta joined ESPN before the 2013 season, and his time with the network finished up at the end of the 2014 season. He received high praise in his role, mainly on Baseball Tonight, and interviewed for a number of managerial positions this offseason before latching on with Seattle’s coaching staff under new GM Jerry Dipoto and new manager Scott Servais.
Current ESPN analyst Alex Cora also interviewed for several managerial jobs this winter. He wasn’t hired for any of the vacancies (with only the Dodgers’ job still open), but could end up catching on with another team’s coaching staff before the year is out. That would be a big loss for ESPN, and while they wouldn’t necessarily be scrambling Cora’s spot, it would be interesting to see who (if anyone) gets brought in as a replacement.
