ESPN adds six analysts, four play-by-play commentators to college basketball stable

ESPN’s stable of college basketball announcers keeps growing like rabbits, which is to be expected when the network is scheduled to show roughly 1,200 games during the 2015-16 season.

This week, the Worldwide Leader announced a whopping six analysts and four play-by-play commentators for their college hoops coverage, mainly for SEC Network and ESPNU.

The new SEC Network analysts are Glen Davis, Andrew DeClercq, and John Pelphrey, all of whom starred as players (and also as a coach, in the case of Pelphrey) at SEC schools. As far as I can tell, none have broadcasting experience. Davis spent the last two years playing for the Clippers, while DeClercq has been a high school coach in Florida since 2009. Pelphrey last worked as an assistant at Florida under Billy Donovan, who left the SEC for the NBA earlier this year.

Over on ESPNU, the new analysts are Antawn Jamison, Jason Capel, and Chris Spatola, all of whom also have playing experience. Jamison currently works as a Lakers studio analyst on TWC SportsNet, and will maintain that role while also joining ESPNU for select games. Capel worked as an analyst for Raycom during the 2007-08 season before joining the Appalachian State staff in 2009. Spatola previously worked for CBS Sports Network, and was part of Turner’s Team Stream coverage this April. He’s also Mike Krzyzewski’s son in law, in case you want to roll out the bias card at all this year.

Finally, the four new play-by-play commentators. Ted Emrich, Alex Faust, Kevin Fitzgerald, and Jenn Hildreth are the four new faces, and all have plenty of experience. Emrich has called football, college baseball, and golf for Westwood One this year. Faust has been calling college football on the Sports USA Radio Network this year, and also calls college hockey for NESN. Fitzgerald has called a few games on ESPN3 this year, and also covers Rutgers for BTN. Hildreth came to prominence this summer during the Women’s World Cup on Fox, but has also worked ACC football games for ESPN over the last few years.
