If you’re a regular listener of the Dan Patrick Show, you know that he latches onto Adam Sandler and has appeared in several of his movies. Now that friendship will expand into producing a new series for NBC.

Variety reports that Patrick and Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison are teaming up to develop a new sitcom called “The Hit Show,” which would be about a sports news program. We have had a sports news program workplace sitcoms in the past, the most notable, the Aaron Sorkin-produced “Sports Night” on ABC which was based on the Keith Olbermann-Dan Patrick SportsCenters of the 1990’s and had a very good ensemble cast which included Josh Charles, Felicity Huffman, Peter Krause and Robert Guillaume.

Now Patrick gets to turn the tables and produce a sports workplace sitcom of his own and update it for the 21st Century. In this case, the series have a YouTube star getting the call to co-anchor the fictional sports news show along with an established co-anchor. Maybe Patrick himself will do a cameo and call on his sports media friends like Bob Costas and Al Michaels to also make walk-ons. Of course, the Danettes may appeal to make cameos of their own if the show really takes off.

So far, the sitcom is in the early development stages and there’s no word on a cast or as to when the show would hit the air. But NBC has lent its support and perhaps we’ll see the show sometime down the road.
