On Monday night, the Women’s College World Series Championship Finals begins on ESPN2, continuing onto ESPN on Tuesday and (if necessary) Wednesday. The series between Florida and Michigan will be called by ESPN’s top softball crew of Beth Mowins, Jessica Mendoza, and Michele Smith, while Holly Rowe will serve as a reporter.

But another interesting name will be covering the game as a field analyst – Sunday Night Baseball’s Curt Schilling. Schilling will be in Oklahoma City for the three game series, continuing ESPN’s trend of sticking analysts in various places around the stadium to gain a different perspective on the game (as seen often this year with Doug Glanville on ESPN’s MLB coverage).

There will also be coverage of the Women’s College World Series on Baseball Tonight featuring Schilling, and ESPNU will air pregame and postgame shows for Game 2 and (if it happens) Game 3.

While college baseball will continue to devour ESPN’s airwaves over the next week, it’s nice to see softball getting some coverage. The inclusion of one of ESPN’s most prominent MLB analysts is a refreshing course of action.
