Charles Barkley is one of the most outspoken basketball players in league history. Michael Jordan is one of the best basketball players in league history. Naturally, you’d expect there to be some sort of relationship between the two, but as Barkley explained in this interview with Seth Davis, that relationship has deteriorated in recent years.

What it comes down to is this – Barkley doesn’t like sugar coating his analysis on TNT, and when he trashed Jordan’s work with the Bobcats (now the Hornets), Jordan took it personally.

Barkley’s always been a straight shooter, and that candor has gotten him in trouble in the past. But if Jordan really has an issue with Barkley calling out his years of substandard work in Charlotte, maybe he should have instead worried about trying to put together a better team.

It’s not a referendum on Michael Jordan, the person that Charles Barkley thinks that Michael Jordan, the executive is doing a terrible job. It’s not personal – it’s just business. If Barkley relentlessly praised Jordan’s lack of progress with the Bobcats/Hornets, he’d be getting slammed for being too easy on his friend.

You’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. Barkley chose to stay true to his profession instead of his friend, and while some might find that objectionable, it really was the best course of action for him and his career.
