As any reader of The Sports Guy knows, Bill Simmons is a huge WWE fan that shows up in the front row for some of their biggest shows.  Well, on next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Simmons won’t just be there as a fan.  He’ll be serving as a guest commentator for the go-home show before WWE’s biggest event of the year – WrestleMania.  Simmons will apparently join the usual trio of announcers Michael Cole, John “Bradshaw” Layfield, and Booker T at the announcing table according to WWE.com.  Oh, and Snoop Dogg will be there as well:

WWE.com can confirm that Snoop Dogg and Simmons will appear on next week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, which will emanate live from Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center at 8/7 C on USA Network. Snoop, who is the keynote speaker at this year’s SXSW Music Conference and Festival, will be the show’s official guest star in advance of the May 12 release of his latest album, “Bush,” produced by Pharrell Williams. Simmons, the creator and editor-in-chief of Grantland.com as well as the host of the Grantland Basketball Hour and The BS Report podcast, will join JBL, Michael Cole and Booker T as a guest commentator.

Simmons has stepped into the broadcast booth to call basketball games as a guest analyst before, but professional wrestling is a totally different beast.  It’s going to be fascinating to watch because anything could happen.  He could do great, he could be a trainwreck, he could get RKO’d through the announce table.  It’s all possible!  Well, everything except saving what looks to be one of the most lackluster WrestleMania cards in years.

We know Simmons’ contract is coming up at ESPN… and come to think of it, nobody has mentioned WWE as an option.  Continue at ESPN, start your own company… or be a WWE commentator or the new General Manager of Raw?  It might be an option for Simmons to consider as he steps behind the announce table on Monday.  I just hope he doesn’t watch any tapes of Art Donovan to study for the guest commentator role.
