If you were worried about about Bill Simmons’ ability to make a living post ESPN, don’t as apparently he’s doing QUITE well.
The recent HBO addition and budding podcast impresario, has purchased a beach house along Malibu’s Carbon Beach for a whopping $7.5 million.
From Variety:
Los Angeles County Tax records and other resources show the not-quite 1,500-square-foot, two-story cedar-shingled residence, purchased via trust, was originally built in 1950, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There’s a small walled, gated and tree-shaded courtyard at the front, a slender oceanside balcony on the upper floor, and a wide row of French doors on the lower level that open to a deep oceanfront deck with sunken hot tub.
Carbon Beach is widely known as “billionaires beach” which sounds like a pretty soft landing spot from losing your gig at ESPN. While it sounds like a nice piece of real estate, 1,500 square feet is probably not even large enough to host a Grantland reunion and speaks to the pricey nature of the real estate there. That said, maybe said fictitious Grantland reunion party and other fictitious events would be best suited to be hosted outdoors, although the beach is no longer private despite the efforts of media mogul David Geffen efforts to prevent public access.
While economics are murky on Simmons’ deal with HBO as well as his new podcast company, one can surmise he is feeling quite bullish on his earning ability going forward as well as the Malibu real estate market. We eagerly await our invitation to the housewarming party and are happy to bring a side.
