This year’s US Open at Pinehurst represents the end of an era.  After broadcasting the US Open since 1995, this will be NBC’s last major championship golf telecast for the time being.  Beginning next year, Fox takes over the rights to USGA tournaments with Joe Buck and Greg Norman leading the way.

Furthermore, it’s also the last US Open tournament for ESPN, who has teamed with NBC on the event coverage.  ESPN has had an even longer relationship with the US Open – this is their 33rd year at the event.

With ESPN and NBC exiting the scene, this is the last chance to hear Chris Berman in the broadcast booth calling golf… and the last chance to keep track of every time Johnny Miller’s final round 63 at Oakmont is mentioned throughout the week.  Enjoy it while you can, sports fans.
