John Brooks etched his name into American soccer lore with the game winner in the USA’s opening match against Ghana in the 2014 World Cup.  The 21 year old American defender connected on a Graham Zusi header on a corner kick in the 86th minute to give the USA a 2-1 victory over Ghana.  The USMNT finally exorcised some World Cup demons, defeating the nation that had knocked them out of the last 2 World Cups.

Fittingly, Ian Darke once again had the call for an epic World Cup moment. The veteran British commentator continues to build upon his icon status in the broadcast booth and his “It’s John Brooks!” call will go down in the history books once again. This time it will be joined by the jubilant, spur-of-the-moment exclamation of analyst Taylor Twellman, who let out what I believe to be a very succinct “YES!” There were a lot of American soccer fans around the country with the same exact reaction…

What a moment. The USA continues to produce memorable moments on the world’s biggest soccer stage. You’re next Portugal.
