I’m not going to say that Stephen A. Smith’s comments on Ben Roethlisberger are another window into his soul and his views on humanity, we all need a break from that after the last three days.
I will say that Stephen A. Smith couldn’t have picked a worse time to say “Ben Roethlisberger, to me, has never come across as a bad guy” than the same day he offered a serious apology for his comments on women provoking domestic abuse. Life is all about timing, don’t you know…

Roethlisberger, you’ll recall, was suspended four games by the NFL in 2010 after he was accused of sexual assault for a second time. Roethlisberger settled a lawsuit relating to the first case in 2008 and was not charged in either instance.
Maybe it’d be best for everyone involved if Stephen A. Smith and First Take sat the next play out, because that promise by the show to “communicate better” lasted roughly 37 minutes. Alas, tomorrow is a new day.
