NBCSN to air a “Road to the Winter Classic” marathon

One of the complaints about this season of “Road to the Winter Classic” is the access to the show. Previously aired on HBO, this season is being shown on Epix. Some of you may be asking “What’s Epix” or “There’s a channel called Epix” and you would be right for doing so.

To say Epix is not as widely distributed as HBO is a huge understatement. While it can be seen on AT&T U-verse, Bright House/Time Warner, Charter, Cox, Dish, Mediacom, Suddenlink and Verizon FiOS, it still isn’t seen on Cablevision, Comcast, DirecTV and other providers.

Canadians can watch the series on Sportsnet which is widely distributed throughout the country, but fans here in the United Statese either have to get a free trial to Epix through its website or its app, or see it at NHL.com. That’s not helpful to fans who want to watch it in crystal clear high definition on their home TV sets.

But for those who want to watch it on television, help is on the way. Awful Announcing has learned that NBCSN will be airing the first three episodes of “Road to the Winter Classic” in primetime on New Year’s Eve. NBCSports.com lists the episodes under “Wed, Dec. 31” in its “TV Listings” page and we have taken a screenshot as proof:

So fans who have been wanting to watch Road to the Winter Classic episodes can do so the night before the game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals on New Year’s Day.

We don’t know if NBCSN will stream the episodes on its Live Extra app, but you can always record them on your DVR if you’re going to be out celebrating the New Year.

There’s no official word from NBC regarding the airing of the “Road to the Winter Classic” marathon, but suffice to say seeing a listing of the show on NBCSports.com is as close to official as one can get.
