In another attempt to appeal to 20-somethings like myself by turning their sports heroes into analysts or TV hosts, Fox Sports 1 will premiere a new show on Tuesday hosted by beloved former Seattle Mariner Ken Griffey Jr.
Big Sticks with Ken Griffey Jr. sounds like an incredibly interesting show. During each show, Griffey and an MLB player will talk about hitting, with breakdowns of batting practice, film sessions, and an in-game performance. The debut episode, airing on Tuesday evening at 9:30 PM, will feature Griffey and Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this show is going to attract much of a widespread audience. It looks like a fantastic concept, and seeing a guy who had one of the most beautiful swings ever breaking down hitting with some of today’s biggest stars sounds like the greatest thing ever for baseball fans. But for casual fans? I’m not sure it will catch on. I really hope I’m wrong, though – this looks like it’s going to be a blast.
