“The Mayor” Fred Hoiberg has done a sensational job as head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones, leading them to the Sweet 16 in his 4th season.  Tonight Iowa State faces Connecticut at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  That led Joey Donia of the ABC affiliate in Des Moines to the streets of the Big Apple to ask Knicks fans if they would like to see Phil Jackson hire Hoiberg to coach the Knicks next year.

The results were wonderfully disastrous.  In true New York fashion, people either tried to run away from Donia as fast as they could or just ignored him.  Not quite the midwestern hospitality he’s probably used to in Des Moines.

The people that did stop to have a chat had no idea who Fred Hoiberg was…

How could these people not know about The Mayor! Even if you aren’t a college basketball fan and just watched the NBA, surely you would recall his memorable career in the association.  Sure he averaged a little over 5 points per game, but still, he played 10 seasons and had one of the best nicknames in the sport.  Knicks fans should be begging for Fred Hoiberg to come to New York.  Not just to run the team, but maybe the city too!
