Last June in the midst of hundreds of layoffs, ESPN shocked many inside and outside of Bristol by cutting longtime employee Howie Schwab.  Not only was Schwab a valuable member of ESPN’s research department for decades, he was a cult TV favorite thanks to the Stump the Schwab trivia show.  The outpouring of support for The Schwab was well deserved as he was in many ways the representation of the redeeming qualities and original spirit of ESPN.

Thankfully, now Schwab has landed on his feet at the perfect place for his unmatched wealth of trivia knowledge.  He will be working on Dan Patrick’s new Sports Jeopardy show.

The news was first reported by ESPN book author Jim Miller.

The Schwab appeared on The Dan Patrick Show Tuesday morning to talk about his new job.  Schwab will be a consultant on Sports Jeopardy and work on the questions that will appear on the show.  He even gave a preview of what a potential Final Jeopardy question might sound like…

This is great, great news.  Schwab deserved much, much better than he got at the end of his ESPN tenure and Sports Jeopardy seems like the perfect landing place for the stats and trivia guru.  I was already looking forward to Sports Jeopardy, but now knowing that Schwab is involved that makes the prospect of a true sports trivia show finally coming back all the more exciting.
