One of the best parody Twitter accounts, Faux Pelini, will not die when the real Bo Pelini transitions to Division I FCS Youngstown State. The man behind the account, a Nebraska fan living in Chicago, tells ESPN.com that the Faux Pelini will remain interested in the happenings in Lincoln and comment about them.
The fake Pelini account began in 2010 and commented on everything Nebraska football with such comedic timing that some wondered who was behind the tweets.
Had Pelini moved to another major football program either as a head coach or coordinator, the account’s operator said it might have been difficult to keep commenting on the happenings in Nebraska, yet it was made easier to keep going by the real Pelini’s move to Ohio.
Of course, this week’s release of the audio of his final meeting with his team became fodder for Faux Pelini as the operator told ESPN.com, “It’s great material. It’s more of the same. As a fan, it struck me that [Pelini] may have finally found a way to unite the fan base — maybe by accident. The opinions on Bo seem to be closer now to the same across the board.”
While the real Pelini will be focusing on the Youngstown State Penguins, the Faux Pelini account will continue to follow Nebraska:
“… I hope this doesn’t shock anyone to hear that I will not be watching (Youngstown State’s) games and tweeting along.”
He said there’s still more to do and for that, we’re thankful.
