Deanna Kay served as the social media reporter for the ESPYs red carpet Wednesday night.  I can’t say I’ve ever seen Deanna Kay on ESPN television before, so let’s see how this goes…

The role of “social media correspondent” is one that’s a no-win situation to begin with because it’s usually the most pointless thing on television.  If I wanted to hear about tweets and hashtags I would, you know, get on Twitter.  Furthermore, if I’m on Twitter, why do I need someone to also “report” what’s also on Twitter?  I’m on Twitter 23.7 hours out of the day and even I think this is annoying.  I can only imagine what someone not on Twitter thinks about all this.  Anyways, I digress.

Kay’s report starts well, but either something happened with a teleprompter or she got the wrong graphics because it goes completely off the rails.

At least she took it all in stride on Twitter.

And to her credit, at least she closed out her report from the ESPY red carpet.  That’s better than poor Chuck Giampa could say in this AA Hall of Fame clip.
