I’m not sure about you, but on the Fourth of July, my favorite activity isn’t grilling, day drinking, or watching fireworks – it’s watching grown men and women stuff their faces with hot dogs on Coney Island during the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Content on ESPN. Thankfully, this tradition isn’t going anywhere any time soon, as ESPN announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to an extension of their contract with Major League Eating through 2024.

This year’s contest will be the 11th consecutive event shown on ESPN. The prior eight have all drawn over one million viewers, including 1.15 million last year. This event is a favorite of ours here at AA, and ESPN went all-out with their production last year, including putting together a SportScience feature. In previous years, we’ve given you a traditional recap of the contest and a simple look at the most insane quotes from the festivities.

I don’t know how we’re going to cover it this year, but it’s always an event to remember. I’m so happy that we’re not going to be deprived of watching this gluttony.
