Last we heard from The Nightmare from Real Street Craig James, he was filing a complaint against Fox Sports accusing them of firing him over his religious beliefs.  James was hired by Fox Sports Southwest in in August 2013 and unceremoniously canned within 48 hours because the parent company had not vetted his hire and was uncomfortable with anti-gay rhetoric from his Texas senate campaign.  James had said during the campaign that gays would “have to answer to the Lord for their actions.”

So what will Craig James do now?  He’s landed on his feet with an organization called the Family Research Council as an Assistant to the President…. whatever that means.  Is that like being the Assistant to the Regional Manager?  Let’s hope so.

Here’s their announcement:

Craig James, a Fox Sports football analyst who was fired after the network learned that he had expressed his views in support of natural marriage during his race for the U.S. Senate 18 months earlier, has joined Family Research Council (FRC) as an Assistant to the President. In this role, Craig will cultivate relationships with like-minded Americans across the country who share a common concern for the growing hostility toward free speech and religious liberty in the U.S. He will continue to share his own story of religious discrimination and educate Americans to the expanding threats to our First Freedom.

“We are very excited and pleased to announce that Craig James is joining Family Research Council’s team,” said Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. “Losing one job because of his religious beliefs has made room for another: raising awareness about the threats to our most precious liberty – the freedom of religion. His leadership skills, his courage in the face of religious hostility, and his passion for faith, family and freedom will make him a great addition to the FRC team.

James is really taking the “persecuted for my religious beliefs” ball and running with it.  I know what you’re thinking – you want to know more about the Family Research Council and their views.

Here is what the FRC and new Assistant to the President Craig James has to say about homosexuality.  They state that being gay is “harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed. It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects.”  Well then, isn’t that just the picture of tolerance and grace.  According to James and his new employer, being gay is basically right behind “nuclear holocaust” as a danger to humanity.  It shouldn’t be lost that James is now working for this group as the first athletes in football and men’s college basketball come out publicly.

Given James has officially aligned himself with a group with these extreme anti-gay viewpoints and those are the central reason why he’s untouchable for a network, this association makes it unlikely we’ll ever see him work in sports television again.
