If there was one thing the sports world didn't need, it was another talk show. Good news, though – MLB Network has us covered with the Opening Day premiere of High Heat with Christopher Russo, an hour-long daily MLB Network show that will air at 1 PM (noon if there's an MLB Network game telecast at 1 PM on the network).

On his new show, the Mad Dog will open with a monologue about the current top headlines in the game, talk with various MLB Network personalities about what's in the news, touch on the best game calls from the prior day (which could be an absolute hoot if no negativity surfaces at all), and listen to some fan voicemails presenting feedback.

Doesn't that sound completely enthralling to you? Yeah, me neither. At least with the expected (though still unannounced) jump to Fox Sports 1 for Mike Francesa, the Mongos will still be with him to get Francesa riled up. Is this show really going to be anything more than a sounding board for MLB Network featuring a plethora of commentators that fans aren't too fond of to begin with? MLB Network has provided a lot of smart commentary and MLB Tonight especially has been a standout show providing the best in analysis about the sport. This new show doesn't seem to stack up to that ideal.
