One of the things that made “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” a success was the skewering of the TV news industry. From depicting real dumb men to the treatment of female anchors, the movie had a ring of truth. And to those in TV news, the movie is rather beloved. It’s so beloved that a group of Australian TV anchors decided to recreate the classic TV news brawl from the movie that epitomized the competition among stations.
If you’re a reader from Australia, you’ll recognize the news readers from various networks including 9 Network (with our all-time favorite morning news team from the Australian Today show, Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson, who pulled their own Anchorman-type prank last year), SBS and other channels. The acting was described by a critic as “wooden,” which can perfectly describe some news anchors here in the States. Take a look at the video:
For those of us in the United States, let’s imagine this with all of the network morning shows from Today, Good Morning America and CBS This Morning, or the cable networks CNN, Fox and MSNBC throwing down, or even the evening news magazines, 60 Minutes, 20/20 and Dateline going at it. The possibilities are endless.
