The New York Jets are 1-7 and if it weren’t for the existence of the Oakland Raiders, would be the most embarrassing franchise in the NFL this season. After a brutal home defeat to the Bills on Sunday, the Jets sunk to a new low. And this is for a team that has the Buttfumble among its recent lowlights. Geno Smith and Michael Vick are making Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow look like Norm Van Brocklin and Bob Waterfield.
One could then surmise that the Monday press conference of Jets GM John Izdik would not go over so well with Izdik still trying to sell positivity and optimism for Gang Green.
With Sunday’s debacle and the Monday press conference, we had the stars aligned for a classic Mike Francesa rant. Francesa has had his various feuds with various Jets personnel over the years, so you knew he was licking his chops to rip the Jets limb from limb…
Some of the highlights from the Francesa rant that contained its fair share of great one-liners…
“If you have good players and good coaches, why are you 1-7!”
“They didn’t even tell you who the quarterback is. How could you go to Kansas City… and then play Geno Smith and then tell me you’re trying to win!”
“First of all he gives you this Jet Nation garbage, there is no such thing. Play like a Jet – what does that mean? Commit a penalty or fumble the ball or drop the ball… we know it’s not play well because we’ve been here all our lives!”
“What is Jet Nation? 42,000 empty seats!!”
“Sammy Watkins it was so easy he forgot he was playing! He only caught 3 passes yesterday for 157 yards! You know how long it takes a Jet receiver to have 157 yards? THREE YEARS!”

This is one that will go down in the history books in the Mongo Hall of Fame as one of the great Francesa blowups. It truly does have it all. If the pope could rip the Jets every day like this, I guarantee his ratings would go through the roof on Fox Sports 1. At least when he’s actually televised…
