American treasure Vin Scully and the Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to announce on Friday that the greatest baseball announcer of all-time will return to call a record 65th season with the team in 2014. He will continue his tradition of simulcasting the first three and last three innings on radio and TV next season.
It will also mark the first season of the Dodgers on their new cable network which will be powered by Time Warner Cable.
Scully tells the Los Angeles Times: "I really still enjoy it immensely. My health is good, thank God. So why not? And my wife said, 'Why not?'"
Yes, why not? While other men may call the game, Vin is really is THE Voice of baseball on TV and radio.
He added: "Just the thought of walking away from it to retirement — and looking out the window or something? It's just too good."
So Scully will be back in the booth for 2014 and with the Dodgers on the rise, fans in SoCal are hoping he gets to call one more World Series. The last Fall Classic he called on network television was in 1988 on NBC and it also marked the Dodgers last World Championship. Scully continued to call the World Series nationally on CBS Radio until 1997.
It will be a pleasure to know that he will be back in the booth for at least one more season. Here's hoping that he continues calling games for as long as he's physically able.
