Yesterday, the story broke about the New York Rangers firing coach John Tortorella. WFAN has been taking credit for reporting the story first. Mike Francesa discussed the firing on his show Wednesday, then ripped ESPN for doing not crediting WFAN on its scoop. If you visit Awful Announcing regularly, you know about the issues regarding ESPN and "sources."
ESPN SportsCenter anchor John Buccigross took to Twiter to respond to Francesa's classic rant with a simple "LOLLOL,"
“@richarddeitsch: Via @wfanaudio: WFAN host Mike Francesa blasts ESPN for stealing his John Tortorella story: snd.sc/175hEYH”-LOLLOL
— John Buccigross (@Buccigross) May 29, 2013
That led to today when a caller decided to stir the pot and ask Francesa about Buccigross. It led to Mikey going on a comical rant not only about ESPN's refusal to credit WFAN, but also to call Buccigross "nameless" and "faceless." Luckily, we have the audio coutesy @WFANAudio.
So as we await Buccigross' reponse, we give this latest round of the WFAN/Mike Francesa vs. ESPN/John Buccigross feud to the Sports Pope. Here's hoping this lasts for at least another day.
UPDATE: Here's the Buccigross response. Well played with the hashtag…
