Dick Vitale's love and admiration for Duke basketball is the stuff of legend in sports broadcasting.  He's truly earned the nickname "Dukie" V over the years with his passionate defenses of Mike Krzyzewski, his endless praise of the Duke program, and his spiritual connection with the Cameron Crazies.  Former Temple head coach John Cheney once said, "You can't get Dick Vitale to say 15 words without Duke coming out of his mouth."

Wednesday night, #1 Duke was embarrassed on national television, losing 90-63 on the road at Miami (FL) in a game that wasn't even that close.  Duke's performance was so bad, the Blue Devils lost their most notable supporter.  Vitale told Duke to "start the buses" in the second half and became incensed with the Dukies allowing layup after layup after layup after layup after layup after layup after layup after layup after layup….

Duke played so bad they broke Dick Vitale's brain!  Vitale may be the biggest optimist in broadcasting, so for him to turn against Duke takes an extraordinary set of circumstances.  The announcer also said during the game it was the worst he's seen Duke play in all his years of broadcasting and wrote a brief column to the same effect afterwards…

I proudly admit to being a Duke basketball hater.  There's fewer things more enjoyable than watching the Dukies get run off the court… except maybe watching Duke get run off the court with Dick Vitale trying to make sense of it all.
