Following the NCAA selection show on Sunday at 6 PM on CBS, truTV will air an analysis show called “Hardcore Brackets” at 7 PM. The main selling point of the show is that for the first time ever, the selection committee will release the list of the entire field ranked from 1 to 68.

The selection show on CBS will feature Greg Gumbel, Greg Anthony, and Seth Davis in studio, while Jim Nantz, Clark Kellogg, and Steve Kerr will join the broadcast from the Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis where they will be calling the Big Ten championship game on Sunday afternoon. The show on truTV will feature the studio team, plus (gulp) Inside the NBA cohosts Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley. This is a change from last year when they were shoehorned into the CBS selection show and called out for their lack of knowledge about the teams and the selection process.

The truTV show will notably go head to head with ESPN’s own bracketology show. It’s good to see the CBS/Turner pairing coming out with their own analysis show to combat ESPN and their behemoth of coverage from a dozen talking heads featuring Dick Vitale’s annual bubble team rant. We don’t really hear much from the CBS team in the way of analysis, and it will be interesting to listen and see if they actually know what they’re talking about this year. The full ranking of the teams is obviously going to be a big draw for the show to see who the actual last teams in were and where the committee may have succeeded or stumbled in seeding the field. This would have been of more use in years before the First Four came along, which essentially told us who the bottom four at-large teams on the list are.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to the show and the full seeding being revealed. I’ll at least give it a shot to see how the NBA personalities bring it this year from the outset.
