NBA: Celtics 44, Hawks 26 (halftime) – Thankfully, the Celtics appear to be intent on delaying that inevitable, “Hey, remember six months ago, when it was awesome to be a New England sports fan?” headline, at least for another round. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have ten points each for Boston. Joe Johnson leads Atlanta with 12, all on threes.

(Michael Wilbon’s five favorite Celtics: Sam Jones, John Havlicek, Dennis Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, in descending order. Ironic that someone who dislikes blogs would come up with exactly the sort of list that a blogger might put together.)

MLB: Marlins 3, Padres 2 (fifth inning) – Greg Maddux takes another shot at picking up career win #350. The Marlins are not cooperating.

NHL: Rangers 0, Penguins 0 (1st period) – Similar to above: remember when the Penguins were about five minutes away from leaving Pittsburgh forever? Doesn’t seem that long ago. Penguins lead the series, 3 games to 1. In related news, it blows my mind that Jaromir Jagr is 36 years old.
