First of all, I feel compelled to tell you that I’m watching this afternoon’s game on mute while searching YouTube for interesting videos. Why? Because your announcers suck, that’s why.
(Does that previous comment have anything to do with the fact that my cable just went out? ‘Cause I’m not apologizing.)
Second, and more importantly, please remember that with graphics, sometimes less is more. That thing you did with Alex Rodriguez’s batting averages last inning, where you had the strike zone broken down into boxes and his average in each mini-zone listed, was pretty cool. I’ve been a sucker for that sort of thing since the first time I cracked open “The Science of Hitting”. Great idea.What you DON’T need to do, however, is add flames to the areas where his average is highest. Seriously guys – flames? What’s wrong with the old-school method – red for good averages, blue for low ones? If you want to draw attention to a couple of numbers that are insanely high, as A-Rod’s were, then do so. But there has to be a better way. Bold print. Italics. A third color that somehow signifies a hotter temperature than red. Stuff like that. Just anything but flames, please.
