Mike Glennon is doing very little to show he deserves to keep the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback job over 2017 first-round pick Mitch Trubisky.
During the Bears’ game against the Packers on Thursday Night Football, Glennon showed off brutal pocket awareness and his statue-esque “mobility” on the very first Chicago play from scrimmage. Glennon held onto the ball for far too long, and the Packers’ defense drilled him, forced a fumble, and recovered it (the turnover would led to their second touchdown).
Later in the first quarter, the Bears actually had a nice drive going into Green Bay territory, when Glennon couldn’t handle a shotgun snap to the groin from center Cody Whitehair, and the Packers — again — recovered the fumble. Tony Romo is working as the color commentator for the game for CBS/NFL Network, and the former Cowboys quarterback yelled “Oh no!” as the play unfolded.
Romo then broke down the play, saying the snap confusion happened after Glennon’s pre-snap leg movements.
Romo has gotten great reviews — though not exactly from Brent Musburger — for his work so far as a broadcaster, and I’ve especially enjoyed the random phrases and noises he yells out. Here’s an example of this from Romo calling the Packers-Bengals game in Week 3:
