There have been so many words spilled and hot takes made about Deflategate that it was handily named the second-most annoying sports story ever in an AA reader poll (and that was back in August!), but perhaps the problem is that’s it’s been largely covered by the wrong kind of sports media members. All those investigations of ball pressure, destroyed cell phones, court cases and the commissioner’s disciplinary powers may have missed the point. Fortunately, legendary Anchorman sportscaster Champ Kind is here to address the vital issues. Comedian David Koechner (who portrays Kind in both the Anchorman films) sat down with Sports Illustrated Live to talk some sports Thursday, and he slipped into character when asked how Kind would interview NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick:

“Hey Goodell, can we make it a rule that Belichick has to wear a suit?” Belichick’s coaching attire is clearly the real issue at play here, so it’s good that Kind is on the case. We need honest sportscasters like him to hold the NFL’s feet to the fire on the issues that really matter.

The best part is that Koechner goes on to reveal the source of Kind’s powers, though. When asked if Kind would be sober for that interview, his response is “No. I don’t think Champ wakes up sober.” Whammy indeed, Champ, whammy indeed.
