Penn State football opens its Big Ten schedule on Saturday versus Indiana at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions are surely feeling pretty good following a 4-1 run through their non-conference schedule. But it’s homecoming week in State College and head coach James Franklin wanted to make sure it remained Happy Valley by bringing in a famous graduate for a goof during a team meeting.

Keegan-Michael Key of famed comedy duo Key and Peele is a 1996 graduate of Penn State and happens to bear a slight resemblance to bear a slight resemblance to Franklin. Coach and comedian decided to have some fun with that, dressing Key up as the man in charge to address the squad. Here’s some video from the team meeting:

The players seemed to know right away what was going on. Rumors of Key’s presence must have circled through the football building, since he’s the homecoming Grand Marshal? These guys also see so much of Franklin, especially his mannerisms and approach, that they’re entirely familiar with him and know when they’re being addressed by an impostor?

Of course, it could just be that Key is so famous after the success of Key & Peele that he’s instantly recognizable, never mind his resemblance to Franklin. The performer certainly tried, however, and the video shows him rehearsing with Franklin. But Key doesn’t exactly sound like the coach, who has a deeper voice and more deliberate delivery.

If the Nittany Lions find themselves behind the Hoosiers at halftime on Saturday, is there any chance that Franklin brings Key back to fire up the team as Luther, President Obama’s anger translator? (“Please test me, and see what happens!”)
