Twitter’s algorithms are often useful and interesting, but sometimes, they mess up, and when they do, they often mess up in a big way. That’s what happened with the service’s trends function Tuesday, which saw all the tweets about former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle’s expected guilty plea in a child pornography case and linked them to an ESPN story about Green Bay Packers’ receiver Jared Abbrederis. Yeah, it’s doubtful there were 52,800 tweets about Jared Abbrederis; the former Wisconsin receiver and 2014 fifth-round draft pick may be popular with Packers’ fans, but that seems like a stretch. That’s also very definitely a photo of Fogle, as Abbrederis looks a bit different. Nice try, Twitter.
