On Monday night’s episode of Olbermann, Jeremy Schaap filled in for Keith Olbermann, and dedicated his opening monologue to Fox’s hiring of Pete Rose.

Schaap strongly defended the hiring, and came to the same conclusion that most of us have – Rose could be a fantastic analyst for Fox, but could also end up sabotaging the opportunity.

Well said. What’s the worst that can happen with Rose in his new role – he stinks and embarrasses himself? Given the road he’s traveled over the last 26 years, embarrassing himself instead exactly something foreign to Pete Rose.

In the best case scenario, he’s a superstar analyst, momentum builds up for his reinstatement, and Commissioner Rob Manfred eventually relents. There’s little at risk here, and plenty of potential rewards.
