Yahoo has hired Jason Collins, the first openly gay active athlete in any of America’s four major sports, as a college basketball and NBA analyst. Collins retired last November, and this is his first job in sports since his retirement.
With Yahoo, he’s expected to provide original video content, and will make his debut on Sunday’s “Tourney Bracket Live” special at 7:30 alongside of Nicole Zaloumis, Brad Evans, and Pat Forde. Collins will also contribute to Yahoo’s NBA coverage during the regular season and playoffs once the NCAA Tournament has wrapped up.
In a world where video content is getting prioritized more and more, Yahoo has made an interesting hire with Collins. It remains to be seen whether or not he’ll work out well in his new role with Yahoo, but at least he will be a fresh face as an analyst and not just another retread that has already struggled over several stops.
