Last night comedian Daniel Tosh skewered ESPN for allegedly stealing his bit for a new meta thing the network is doing called “The Awesome Video Segment” that looked suspiciously similar to Tosh.0’s Web Redemption.  Tosh’s video went viral as he didn’t just politely point out the similarities, but went on a full fledged blitzkrieg against the network.

ESPN has responded and said it’s just a mere coincidence and they didn’t copy anything from Tosh.  Here’s the network statement from ESPN PR:

“This was more of an instance of us using a common phrase than it was copying his wording. We know that doesn’t sound like the strongest explanation yet it’s the truth. We are looking forward to ‘giving it another shot’ in future installments of The Awesome Video Segment.”

That extra inclusion of “giving it another shot” is pretty cheeky.  My hope is that the next installment of The Awesome Video Segment is a Sport Science bit with John Brenkus breaking down the real science of Tosh’s Sport Science.0 breaking down the real science of ESPN.
