While we’re still celebrating the USA’s victory in the 2015 World Cup, it’s easy to lose just how incredible Carli Lloyd’s game was in the euphoria of merriment.  I know we’re prone to hyperbole these days, but hear me out, it may just be one of the great championship performance’s in the history of world sport.

She became just the second player to ever score a hat trick in a World Cup Final, joining England’s Geoff Hurst in the 1966 men’s tournament.

Even more amazing, Lloyd’s hat trick came in the first 16 minutes of the game.

EVEN MORE AMAZING, Lloyd’s hat trick included a goal from the halfway line.  While it was great to hear JP Dellacamera call Lloyd’s golazo and the 5-2 American victory on Fox television, a goal like that really demands a call from the legendary Andres Cantor.

That’s a Goal of the Year candidate no matter the circumstances, even if it was taking place in semi-pro action.  But to even think about attempting that feat, let alone pulling it off, in a World Cup Final?!?  Extraordinary.  A moment of American sporting history we’ll always remember.
