England has a rough history with the Euro tournament, but with a matchup in the knockout stages against tiny Iceland, it looked as though England should have a relatively easy path to the second round of the knockout stages. To the dismay of many in the nation of England, including Steve McClaren, Iceland overcame an early deficit and held on to stun England, 2-1.

McClaren was breaking things down as the match was unfolding. During his segment on Sky, McClaren seemed confident England would bounce back from a 1-1 tie in the early goings of the match and suggested there would be little to worry about. Then Iceland scored and you could see the pain flow across McClaren’s face in the heat of the moment.

Give it a little bit of time and somebody will eventually give this clip The Simpsons treatment (using the episode where Lisa rejects classmate Ralph on Valentine’s Day), as you can pinpoint the exact moment McClaren seems to have his heart ripped out and trounced on by England’s failure to get by Iceland. If such a mashup is not created in the next 48 hours, the Internet will have failed us all.

It has been a rough few months for McClaren, the former England manager who was sacked as manager of Newcastle United less than a year after signing a three-year contract.
