Ratings News and Notes

  • The Major League Soccer regular-season match of LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders on ESPN from July 29 averaged 397,000 viewers and 238,000 adults 18-49, up 21 percent (in viewers) and up 23 percent (in adults 18-49) from the same two teams that met on the year-ago weekend (July 31, 2016: 328,000 viewers/194,000 adults 18-49).

  • The week’s three “Canadian Football League” games on ESPN2 each saw increases from the year-ago comparable telecasts. Ottawa-Toronto on Monday, July 24 (154,000 viewers) was up 4 percent (Montreal-Toronto on July 25, 2016: 148,000 viewers); Montreal-Winnipeg on Thursday, July 27 (235,000 viewers) rose an impressive 99 percent (Winnipeg-Edmonton on July 28, 2016: 127,000 viewers); and, BC-Edmonton on Friday, July 28 (142,000 viewers) grew 53 percent (BC-Calgary on July 29, 2016: 93,000 viewers).

  • The men’s tennis ATP Tour “2017 Atlanta Open” as part of the U.S. Open Series on ESPN2 from July 29-30 grew from its most recent non-Olympic edition (the 2016 Atlanta Open took place opposite the Rio Summer Olympics). The first semifinal on July 29 (123,000 viewers) had a 1 percent gain from two years ago (Aug. 1, 2015: 122,000 viewers); the John Isner-Ryan Harrison final on July 30 (102,000 viewers) grew 26 percent from the 2015 Atlanta Open final (Aug. 2, 2015: 81,000 viewers).
