About Joe Lucia

I'm the managing editor of Awful Announcing and the news editor of The Comeback. I also made The Outside Corner a thing for six seasons.

Predictable that Doc and Eddie got the call for all four scheduled Pens/Caps games, but I thought that NBC might at least attempt to pretend there are 3 other series going on by tossing Doc out to LA or up to New York for a single game.

    • Shawn Diiorio

Of course you send your A team to the highest profile games. If they didn’t you would probably complain about that as well.

      • StichFace

You seem to restating my original point that this was predictable. My personal desire is to get some rotation among the crew to mix things up.

        • Shawn Diiorio

It’s the playoffs, you don’t make changes at this point.

          • YoDudes

You don’t make changes? Rarely does NBC send the same announcing team to cover a series in its entirety.

          • Shawn Diiorio

That is because it depends on how much Emrick’s willingness or availability to work. If he’s available, he would call all of the PIT-WSH games, if that ends in 4 games (like it looks like it will) He will call another series.

          • YoDudes

Interesting that NBC has to consider Emrick’s willingness to call games. In that case it would be better to only hire him for games 1, 2, 5 and 7 of the Finals, so they could have the same announcing teams throughout the playoffs, but we know that won’t happen because NBC is hell bent on feeding us the hideous McGuirre guy every single day.

What’s this love affair with Kenny Albert? I’d way rather have Chris Cuthbert or Gord Miller doing the games….full-time hockey announcers who don’t moonlight at FOX. Heck, that Burke newcomer guy is sold, I’d take him over Albert too.

    • Brian Robinson

Agreed! I think Burke has done a very good job. Kenny Albert is not good he gets jobs solely based off his last name, I don’t like Forslund either he has the worst goal call ever. If I were NBC Cuthbert would be the number 2 guy. The guy constantly gets disrespected. Maybe it’s because he works for TSN too. not sure

      • Stan Etelman

Agreed, Cuthbert and Miller are FAR superior to Albert but NBC believes that since he’s Marv’s kid, he must be good. Why doesn’t NBC have Albert and Micheletti do the Rangers-Ottawa series? I’m sure the rest of the country would enjoy hearing the Ranger fan club broadcast the games!

        • YoDudes

This is 2017 guys. Kenny Albert is not just “Marv’s kid.” You might not like the guy but you can’t just dismiss him like that, he works very hard and his preparation for the games is unmatched. The other guys you mention are good too but the way you praise them is somewhat infantile.

    • YoDudes

What love affair? If anything, the love affair is with that insufferable McGuirre guy.

  • YoDudes

Whatever. on NBC, it’s always someone and the unbearable Pierre effin McGuirre.
