If you’ve read the history of Patriots coach Bill Belichick, then you know that he spent time at the Naval Academy when his dad Steve was an assistant coach in Annapolis. Belichick went back to the Naval Academy during the Patriots’ bye week and gave a speech to the Navy Midshipmen football team.

This week’s edition of A Season With Navy Football on Showtime showed Belichick’s visit to Annapolis, MD, addressing the team following their loss to American Athletic Conference rival Temple.

“Confidence is really today’s confidence. It’s not last week, it’s not next month. It’s what you have today,” Belichick told the team. “So whether you won last week or didn’t win last week, that doesn’t have anything to do with today. It doesn’t have anything to do with tomorrow. Don’t worry about what happened in the past, don’t worry about the Army game. There’s nothing you can do about any of that stuff.

“The only thing you can control is what you do today in preparation for the upcoming game.”

Following that speech and some preparation for the following game, Navy defeated SMU last Saturday to end a three-game losing streak thus becoming bowl-eligible.

A Season With Navy Football airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime with multiple re-airs throughout the week.
