Mike Francesa facepalm

Friday Night Lights last aired in 2011, but the NBC/DirecTV series still lives on in the memories of its fans. So it’s no wonder that an FNL fan decided to call into WFAN’s Mike Francesa to see if he could get one past the Sports Pope. And the caller did a great job in referencing character Matt Saracen and wondering where he would be picked in tonight’s NFL Draft.

He asked, “This kid Matt Saracen from one of the Texas schools. He doesn’t have the biggest arm, he’s not so athletic, but he makes the smart plays, he’s accurate. What do you think?”

Of course Francesa didn’t pick up on it and said, “Wat skewl? I don’t remembah hem. Weah he’s fwom?”

Caller: “He was coached by Eric Taylor…”

And it went on from there as you can hear from the conversation captured by the Sports Funhouse:

Finally, Francesa was informed about the ruse and then said, “Yoah not go-ink to twap me on a qwartahback I don’t know … I don’t know ever-ee qwartahback in da coun-tree … Yoah not go-ink to twap me on a playah dat’s made up!”

He added it’s stupid to try, but it’s always radio gold to hear him try to wiggle his way through a prank.
