Ratings News and Notes

  • The cable portion of English Premier League Week Two coverage on Aug. 19-20 — four matches on NBCSN — averaged 454,000 viewers, down 22 percent from two years ago (581,000 viewer average on Aug. 22-23, 2015; three matches on NBCSN, two on USA).

  • NBC was the top network in all key figures (except adults 18-34) on Saturday, Aug. 19 with “NASCAR Monster Cup Series: Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race” from Bristol, Tenn.

    At 3.82 million viewers, it jumps up 6 percent in total audience from two years ago when it had aired on NBCSN (3.61 million in 2015) — the bulk of the 2016 race was rain-delayed, pushed to a Sunday afternoon and televised on CNBC (2.67 million viewers). 2017 was the highest-rated, most-watched edition of the Bristol night race since 2014 (3.2 household rating, 5.1 million viewers for ABC).

  • On Aug. 18, NASCAR Xfinity Series: Food City 300 on NBCSN in Bristol registered 1.081 million viewers, down 14 percent from two years ago, the most recent year it had also aired on cable (Aug. 21, 2015 on NBCSN: 1.256 million viewers).

    NASCAR Camping World Truck Series: UNOH 200 on FS1 Aug. 16 drew 236,000 viewers, down 32 percent from last year (Aug. 17, 2016: 345,000 viewers) and down 44 percent from two years ago (Aug. 19, 2015: 522,000 viewers).

  • IndyCar Series: ABC Supply 500 from Pocono on NBCSN Aug. 20 drew 618,000 viewers, down just 3 percent from two years ago (Aug. 23, 2015: 635,000 viewers). The 2016 race was postponed by rain and had taken place on Mon. Aug 22, drawing 143,000 viewers.

  • Drag racing’s Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals from Brainer, Minn. on Aug. 20 (412,000 viewers) was FS1’s most-watched telecast of the week, but down 9 percent from last year (Aug. 21, 2016 on FS1: 452,000 viewers) and down 30 percent from two years ago (Aug. 23, 2015 on ESPN2: 591,000 viewers).

  • The first three days of golf’s U.S. Amateur Open on FS1 from Aug. 16-18 averaged 66,000 viewers, up 53 percent from last year (Aug. 17-19, 2016: 43,000 viewers) and up 40 percent from two years ago (Aug. 19-21, 2015: 47,000 viewers).
