Ratings News and Notes

  • With the postseasons of NBA and NHL concluded for the year, both this week’s WWE RAW and WWE Smackdown on USA Network rebounded to multi-week highs. A week after “WWE RAW” dipped to a nine-month low, the June 19 RAW rose to a nine-week high with an average of 3.099 million viewers from 8-11:18 p.m. The June 20 Smackdown achieved a ten-week high with 2.6 million viewers. The June 22nd TNA Impact Wrestling on Pop also saw a risen effect despite opposite the NBA Draft, reaching a 14-week high in viewership (342,000 viewers).

  • Bellator 180 on June 24, the prelims to the Bellator NYC event on pay-per-view in late night, drew a combined 901,000 viewers -758,000 on Spike and 143,000 on CMT – and was above the usual Bellator event average (approx. 710,000) and about matched the 902,000 viewer average for UFC prelims on FS1 in 2017 to-date. The telecast’s viewer peak was 1.1 million viewers when Ryan Bader won the Bellator lightheavyweight title in a split decision over Phil Davis. (Sources: MMA Fighting, Bloody Elbow)

  • HBO’s June 24 replay of the Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev rematch that originally took place on June 17, averaged 752,000 viewers, with a peak viewership of 947,000 during the eighth and final round. The Nov. 26, 2016 replay of their original bout averaged 834,000 viewers, but that telecast was packaged with the live WBO super featherweight match of Vasyl Lomachenkos-Nicholas Walters.   • MLB Network’s live baseball game action (not counting look-in coverage during “MLB Tonight”) for June 19-25 averaged 232,000 viewers and 58,000 adults 18-49 from the 12 game showcase telecasts, down 11 percent (in viewers) and down 11 percent (in adults 18-49) from the year-ago week (June 20-26, 2016: average of 260,000 viewers/64,000 adults 18-49 from 14 telecasts): also, down 13 percent (in viewers) from two years ago (June 23-28, 2015: average of 265,000 viewers from 8 telecasts).

  • Golf Channel’s tournaments coverage from June 18-25:

    • PGA Tour: Travelers Championship (June 22-25; Golf Channel only): 579,000 viewers (+79 percent from Aug. 4-7, 2016: 324,000 viewers)
    • LPGA Tour: Walmart N.W. Arkansas Championship (June 23-25 early evenings): 261,000 viewers (+9 percent from June 24-26, 2016: 224,000 viewers)
    • Champions Tour: American Family Insurance Championship (June 23-25 afternoons): 224,000 viewers (+31 percent from June 24-26, 2016: 170,000 viewers)
    • European Tour: BMW International Open (June 22-25 mornings): 118,000 viewers (+22 percent from June 23-26, 2016: 96,000 viewers)
    • PGA Professional Championship (June 18-21): 63,000 viewers (-32 percent from June 26-29, 2016: 93,000 viewers)
