When we learned about Brent Musburger’s departure from ESPN, his agent said that he would be moving to a a new venture in Las Vegas. We now know what that venture is. It’s called the Vegas Stats & Information Network or VSiN for short. It will be a radio network devoted solely to sports gaming. Musburger will be the main headliner and joining him will be well-known boxing analyst Al Bernstein who has called Las Vegas home for many years.

According to the official announcement, VSiN will air shows offering news about sports gaming with what it calls “proprietary news, analysis and data.”

The network will have its official launch on SiriusXM satellite radio on February 27, but Musburger will host an early edition of his show which is aptly titled “My Guys in the Desert” on Super Bowl Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on SiriusXM Rush (channel 93).

The network will be based from the floor of the sports book at the South Point Hotel Casino in Vegas. When the network officially launches on February 27, it will be heard 24/7 on Sirius channel 215, XM channel 2014 and channel 961 on the SiriusXM app.

Musburger says, “You didn’t think I’d put down the microphone completely, did you?!” He added, “We’re incredibly excited about this new chapter and I look forward to having the platform of SiriusXM to talk to sports fans each day. We’re not here to tout or sell picks, but to talk about the real science behind gaming to help educate people about the games and what they read in the papers and hear from friends.”

Besides Musburger and Bernstein, Vegas oddsmakers Jimmy Vaccaro, Vinny Magliulo and Chris Andrews will host programs. The daily shows include:

Bernstein by the Book (3-5 p.m. ET) — Mainly hosted by Al Bernstein and some various guest hosts, this show will bring listeners interviews and conversations with Las Vegas personalities and from the world of sports.

The Quantz (5-6 p.m. ET) — Hosted by Gill Alexander, this show will look at sabermetrics and take a statistical approach to sports.

My Guys in the Desert (6-8 p.m. ET) — Brent will host this show Thursday through Monday. The official announcement says the show “will examine what goes in to creating the spread or the odds and what makes those numbers move, and will showcase Musburger’s adept storytelling and experiences from a remarkable career.”

It will be interesting to see how long this lasts and how long Brent will host the show. The fact that he will be on the radio on weekends means that he’ll offer the latest insights on college football, the NFL and other sports. It’s an intriguing choice for his next career phase, but quite appropriate.
